New Jersey's Most Romantic Address - Whitehouse Station, NJ

115 OLD HWY 28 | WHITE HOUSE STATION, NJ

More than two centuries after it was established in 1796, Ryland Inn remains one of New Jersey’s most distinctive wedding venues, with a Grand Ballroom, a restored Coach House and silo, historic architecture, and grounds that have been bringing people together for generations.

Guests spend the weekend exploring the courtyards and gardens, settling into the on-site cottages, and celebrating across a property where every building has a story of its own. The result is an experience that feels less like a single event and more like a weekend immersed in the character and history of the estate.

Ryland Inn welcomes celebrations ranging from intimate gatherings to receptions of up to 240 guests.

The Grand Ballroom

240 Guest Capacity · Indoor/Outdoor Ceremony

The Grand Ballroom brings together the elegance of a historic estate with the warmth and character of the surrounding countryside. Exposed wood beams, grand chandeliers, and abundant natural light create a setting that feels both timeless and welcoming, while floor-to-ceiling windows keep the Hunterdon County landscape in view throughout the celebration. Private courtyards and a garden patio just beyond the doors provide natural gathering places during cocktail hour and throughout the evening. The Grand Ballroom accommodates up to 240 guests for ceremonies and receptions and adapts beautifully to more intimate guest counts.

The Coach House

200 GUESTS CAPACITY · INDOOR/OUTDOOR CEREMONY

The Coach House is one of the property’s most recognizable spaces, centered around a restored 200-year-old barn and the original silo that still stands beside it today. Soaring ceilings, exposed beams, and historic architectural details create an atmosphere that feels distinctly connected to the estate’s roots, while thoughtful restoration ensures the space feels warm, inviting, and celebration-ready. Throughout the evening, guests dine, dance, and gather within one of the estate’s most storied buildings, where historic character and modern celebration come together naturally. Accommodating up to 200 guests, the Coach House brings together the charm of the estate’s past with everything needed for a modern celebration.

The Estate Grounds & Gardens

OUTDOOR CEREMONY · COCKTAIL HOUR · PORTRAITS

Set among the rolling hills of Hunterdon County, the grounds at Ryland Inn include gardens, courtyards, and open green spaces that invite guests to spend time outdoors throughout the celebration. Couples often choose the property for its ceremony locations and portrait opportunities, while guests enjoy gathering outside between events and taking in the surrounding countryside.

Stay the Weekend

Onsite Cottages & Boutique Hotel

Ryland Inn offers on-site cottage accommodations for couples and guests who want to stay close to the celebration. The Hayloft Cottage, Kimblewick House, and Pelham House each bring their own character to the estate, with thoughtfully designed guest rooms, modern amenities, and easy access to the event spaces, gardens, and grounds. Having accommodations just steps away keeps friends and family close throughout the weekend, creating more opportunities to gather, reconnect, and enjoy the estate together beyond the wedding itself.

The estate is also home to the Groom’s Cottage, a dedicated space featuring a pool table, barber station, and comfortable gathering areas where the wedding party can spend time together before the celebration begins.

A boutique hotel is currently in development on the property and will expand overnight accommodations in the near future. For additional lodging options, Ryland Inn maintains a curated list of preferred nearby hotels, and your Event Stylist can assist with room blocks and accommodations for guests.

Intimate Celebrations

at Ryland Inn

For couples planning a more intimate celebration, Ryland Inn offers a private dining space accommodating up to 75 guests for rehearsal dinners, micro-weddings, and intimate receptions. Surrounded by the character of the historic estate, it provides a warm, welcoming setting where every guest feels part of the occasion.

Winter Weddings at The Ryland Inn

Winter is one of the most romantic seasons at Ryland Inn. Fire pits glow in the courtyards, fireplaces add warmth to both the Grand Ballroom and Coach House, and the estate feels especially inviting beneath exposed beams, sparkling chandeliers, and the soft glow of candlelight. Weddings held January through March include seasonal additions such as mulled wine and warm cider upon arrival, a choice of a cheese fondue station or homemade tomato soup and artisanal grilled cheese during cocktail hour, a hot chocolate station with seasonal toppings, oversized sparklers for the evening sendoff, and use of the estate’s antique holiday sled for portraits.

Getting Ready at The Ryland Inn

Ryland Inn’s Wedding Suite provides a private place for the wedding party to spend the morning before the wedding begins. Filled with natural light and thoughtfully designed for hair and makeup, photos, and time together, it offers a comfortable setting to settle in before guests arrive. Snacks and light bites are prepared in advance, allowing everyone to ease into the day and enjoy the anticipation of the celebration to come.

Many couples also use the estate’s overnight accommodations as part of the getting-ready experience. With seven bedrooms at Kimblewick House, five bedrooms at Pelham House, and the private Hayloft Cottage studio, family and friends can gather on-site and easily transition from the morning’s preparations to the celebration itself. For the groom’s party, the Groom’s Cottage offers a separate retreat complete with a pool table, barber station, and comfortable gathering spaces, creating a relaxed place to spend the morning with friends and family before the day gets underway.

Wedding Spotlight

An Unforgettable Wedding Weekend
Victoria and Christopher exchanged vows outdoors on the estate grounds before celebrating in the Coach House, where the estate’s inviting, historic barn and original silo set the tone for the evening. Guests filled the dance floor, gathered in the courtyards between songs, and spent time exploring the property throughout the celebration. By the end of the weekend, the wedding had become exactly what they hoped it would be: an opportunity for everyone they love to spend a little more time together.

Photographing a wedding at the Ryland Inn was a wonderful experience.
The property is beautifully maintained, full of character, and offers so many elegant backdrops throughout the day. The team was attentive and collaborative, and everything felt thoughtfully coordinated from start to finish. It’s a venue that truly supports a smooth, elevated wedding experience, and I would be delighted to photograph another celebration here again.

I would pick the Ryland Inn 1 million times over if I had to do it all over again.
Countless times I was asked if wedding planning was stressful, and I always said well no because of how fantastic my experience was working with the Ryland Inn team. I really had no worries from start to finish. We took all our photos on the grounds of the Ryland Inn which is BREATH TAKING!!!! One of the most important things to us and our family is good food... and they did NOT disappoint.

Everything I imagined it would be — and more.
The space looked absolutely stunning, and our guests were truly blown away by how beautiful everything was. From the ceremony to the reception, every detail was thoughtfully executed. The entire staff was fantastic — from the event coordinator, to bridal attendants, to the bartenders, servers, and maître d’.

We searched for a while all over NYC and NJ and Ryland was the perfect fit.
We were looking for a venue that didn’t give the typical catering hall feels and Ryland exceeded those expectations. The staff was lovely and easy to work with. They answered all communication promptly and made you feel like their attention was fully and only on you. We also loved the ability to get ready on the premise. We rented both the grooms cottage and the Pelham house.

I can’t say enough good things about the Ryland Inn.
To say it was our dream day thanks to the help of Samantha would be an understatement. They were so accommodating, understanding, and diligent. We had many dietary restrictions, changed our minds on several things throughout the process, and reached out many times with questions. We were always shown the utmost respect and responded to quickly.

About Ryland Inn

A Hunterdon County Legacy Since 1796

Ryland Inn has been welcoming guests since 1796, when Colonel David Sanderson built it as a country home and stagecoach stop in the rolling hills of Whitehouse Station. Over the next two centuries, the property evolved alongside Hunterdon County while remaining a gathering place for travelers, neighbors, and celebrations of all kinds.

Long before it became part of the by Landmark collection, Ryland Inn earned national recognition under Chef Craig Shelton, whose restaurant received the James Beard Award for Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic in 2000. When Jeanne and Frank Cretella acquired and restored the estate in 2012, their goal was not to reinvent it, but to preserve the character that had drawn people here for generations. The original beams remain. The historic barn and silo still stand at the center of the property. The landscape, architecture, and equestrian heritage that define the estate today are the same qualities that have connected people to this place for more than 200 years.
