The Hollywood of the East

Long before it became Banq on Parq, this building was one of downtown Plainfield’s most recognizable landmarks. Constructed during a period when the city was known as the “Hollywood of the East,” it reflected the confidence and ambition of the era through its soaring ceilings, marble finishes, brass detailing, and grand public spaces.

When the building eventually closed as a bank, many of those original architectural details remained remarkably intact. Rather than reinventing the space, by Landmark focused on preserving the elements that gave it character in the first place. The brass fixtures remain. The marble surfaces remain. The 25-foot ceilings continue to define the room nearly a century after they were first built.

Today, Banq on Parq offers a new purpose for a historic building that was always designed to bring people together. While the occasions may look different than they did in the 1920s, the sense of occasion remains very much the same.
