The building that houses Felina South Orange was originally constructed in 1894 as Village Hall, a Romanesque Revival landmark at the center of downtown South Orange. Its stone facade, soaring arched windows, and architectural detailing made it a longstanding gathering place within the community. When by Landmark founders Jeanne and Frank Cretella acquired the property, the goal was to preserve the integrity of the original building while introducing a more modern design approach around it. The restoration maintained the structure’s historic character while incorporating details inspired by iconic New York spaces, including Tavern on the Green, The Boathouse, and the mosaic tilework of Bethesda Fountain’s tunnel.
